Misi

  1. Organizing Indonesian language and literature education to produce intermediate educators (lecturers) who have an Islamic personality and provide direction for change for human welfare.
  2. Carrying out research in the field of Indonesian language and literature education to develop knowledge and improve the learning of Indonesian language and literature.
  3. Carry out community service for human welfare through the fields of language and literature education.

Tujuan

  1. Become an intermediate educator who is intelligent, trustworthy, competent, reliable, reformer, has excellence skills, and has an Islamic personality in accordance with the educator’s competence in the fields of language, literature and learning
  2. Able to become an educator, researcher, and writer in the fields of Indonesian language, literature, and learning professionally, with an Islamic personality, Pancasila, and independently by implementing linguistic and literary principles
  3. Play an active role and contribute positively in a excellence manner based on Islamic values and Pancasila in society, the state and the Islamic religion.

Study Program Profile

Indonesian Language Education Master Program (MPBI) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta is, without a doubt, the best master’s level study program for Indonesian Language Education in Indonesia. Based on the SINTA rankings for the last 3 years until the end of 2023, MPBI has always been ranked 1st out of 55 study programs for Indonesian Language Education in Indonesia. Thus, not only is it accredited as unggul (excellent) by the Board of National Accreditation for Higher Education (BAN-PT), MPBI can also be called the best in Indonesia.
MPBI graduates are expected to have the following competencies:

1. Graduates are able to speak Indonesian orally and in writing in general, academic, and work (professional) contexts.
2. Graduates are able to make decisions based on research studies in the field of Indonesian language and literature and communicate ideas effectively in various forms of media to people in the appropriate profession or environment or the general public.
3. Graduates are able to communicate and participate actively in their professional development.

Curriculum

In semester 1, students carry out a learning process (teaching learning process) to take mandatory courses and take several mandatory elective courses (*) to bridge research fields of interest and at the same time start getting a thesis supervisor. In semester 2, students take mandatory courses and intensively carry out thesis research and prepare publications in reputable international or nationally accredited journals. Students are also trained in writing research publication articles and strategies for preparing national/international seminar papers. The courses taught are:
