The Institute for Research and Community Service of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (LPPM-UMS) conducted community service through Application of Appropriate Technology Program (PPTTG)scheme in the form of household waste utilization.The activity was carried out in RW XVII, Jaten Village, Jaten District, Karanganyar. The program was not only supported by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, but was also appreciated by the Karanganyar Regent, Juliyatmono.Kun Harismah, representative from LPPM-UMS, explained that household waste is converted into biogas which later on distributed to residents’ homes. Furthermore, other waste from biogas is used for liquid plant fertilizer. The local community received many benefits from the program since it does not only open up new jobs for them but it also tackles environmental pollution due to waste dumping in the river.
